Swedish Massage - known as the "traditional" massage. This system uses a combination of gliding strokes (effleurage) , tapotement, friction and vibration. Swedish massage promotes relaxation and reduces emotional and physical tension. It is generally performed with the client fully or partially undressed and draped for modesty at all times.
Sports Massage/ Medical Massage/ Orthopedic Massage - promotes flexibility and range of motion, proper muscle length and balance from front to rear and from left to right. This is analyzed from posture, gait and various tests. The benefits are:
- Increase function and performance.
- Decreased pain.
- Less chance of injury.
- Faster recovery.
To achieve this we need to first determine the dysfunctional muscles, which is usually not where the pain is. We treat the dysfunction and then go to the muscles that are compensating, which is usually the area that hurts. We treat those muscles with multi-directional friction or trigger point therapy and then passive and/or active stretch techniques, such as MET or active isolated stretching or eccentric contraction stretching.
Pre-Sports Massage - In addition, Sports massage, has protocalls for both pre-sports and post-sports. Pre-sports is lite and designed to warm up the muscles. Post-sports will be a little more aggressive with more stretching and muscle sculpting.
Deep Tissue - It's exactly what it sounds like and it can be performed with any of the above techniques.
